Jonathan Katz, a professor of computer science and director of the Maryland Cybersecurity Center (MC2), was recently featured on the CyberWire Daily Podcast to discuss electronic authentication, considered to be one of the weakest links in computer security today.

 

Katz, who begins speaking at the 5:20 mark in the podcast, talks about ways users can protect themselves when accessing websites that contain sensitive information, such as banking websites.

 

“Passwords seem here to stay even with all of their problems,” he says. “So that’s why people are now recommending that users use two-factor authentication to make the authentication process more secure. And at the most basic level, this might involve using a password in conjunction with some information on your mobile phone, for example.”
