Cyber Defense Training Camp

 

Program Overview

Summary

Cyber Defense Training Camp is an intermediate level* 7 day residential summer program for high school men and women (rising juniors and seniors). Participants will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of cybersecurity and gain practical skills through instruction by an experienced security professional. Students learn about career options in the field, take at least one field trip and hear from a variety of speakers to learn more about how to prepare to enter this exciting profession.  Additionally, students will be introduced to the Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students (ACES) honors program offered at the University of Maryland.

*Technical experience is recommended, including networking, Cisco Academy, and/or Java programming.

Goals

To prepare the next generation of cybersecurity professionals through interactive learning, skill building, and utilization of available resources.  Participants will be introduced to the cybersecurity programs available at the University of Maryland and they will be exposed to various topics and careers in the field of cybersecurity.

Typical Camp Day

8:00-8:45am     Breakfast
9:00-12:00pm  Classroom Instruction*
12:15-1:15pm  Lunch
1:30-5:15pm    Classroom Instruction
5:30-6:30pm    Dinner
6:45-8:45pm    Cyber Defense Exercises
9:00-10:00pm  Evening Team Building Activity

*Field trips and guest speakers are scheduled during Classroom Instruction time blocks.

Cost

The cost of the program is $1190. This fee covers housing in a UMD dormitory, all meals, transportation to field trips and recreational activities. Please do not include the fee at the time of application. The fee is due upon acceptance to the program.

 

Program Application

Eligibility: Technical experience is recommended, including networking, Cisco Academy, and/or Java programming.

Transcripts: Unofficial Transcripts are required when applying.

**Please Note**  -  All applicants must send most recent UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS to jharring@umiacs.umd.edu. Applications without corresponding transcripts/emails will not be evaluated for the program. Transcripts must be sent within one week of the submitted application.
